Baisakhi: dates, muhurat and meaning.
The next Baisakhi is on Wednesday, 14 April 2027. The date is computed from the classical panchang for Delhi (rule: classical festival table — tithi prevailing at local noon). Below are the Baisakhi dates for 2026 and 2027, the day's shubh muhurat windows, and what the festival celebrates.
Baisakhi by year
What is Baisakhi?
Baisakhi falls when the sun enters Mesha (Aries) — the mesha sankranti — fixing it near 13–14 April every year. It is simultaneously a harvest thanksgiving, the traditional new year, and the Sikhs' most important anniversary.
At Anandpur Sahib in 1699, Guru Gobind Singh initiated the Panj Pyare and created the Khalsa on this day, making Baisakhi the community's founding festival.
Muhurat on Baisakhi
A solar festival, so its date is stable. New account books and ventures opened on Baisakhi use the day's shubh windows — the Abhijit Muhurat above is the safe choice.
| Window | Time (IST) |
|---|---|
| Abhijit Muhurat (Wednesday — coincides with durmuhurtam) | 11:56 AM – 12:47 PM |
On a Wednesday the day's eighth muhurta — the same span as Abhijit — is itself the durmuhurtam, so classical practice does not count this window shubh. Prefer the day's good choghadiya instead.
