Govardhan Puja: dates, muhurat and meaning.
The next Govardhan Puja is on Monday, 9 November 2026. The date is computed from the classical panchang for Delhi (rule: classical festival table — tithi prevailing at local noon). Below are the Govardhan Puja dates for 2026 and 2027, the day's shubh muhurat windows, and what the festival celebrates.
Govardhan Puja by year
What is Govardhan Puja?
Krishna's lesson at Govardhan was ecological before the word: worship the hill that feeds you, not the distant thunderer. The Annakut of hundreds of dishes is its delicious memorial.
The day doubles as Bali Pratipada in the South, honouring King Bali's annual return, and as the Gujarati new year — account books opened at Diwali's chopda pujan begin their entries today.
Muhurat on Govardhan Puja
The Annakut offering is made in the morning; the Govardhan puja muhurat runs through the day. The Abhijit Muhurat above is the day's anchor — and the new samvat's first full business day makes it a popular opening day.
