Nag Panchami: dates, muhurat and meaning.
The next Nag Panchami is on Friday, 6 August 2027. The date is computed from the classical panchang for Delhi (rule: shukla panchami tithi prevailing at sunset). Below are the Nag Panchami dates for 2026 and 2027, the day's shubh muhurat windows, and what the festival celebrates.
Nag Panchami by year
What is Nag Panchami?
Nag worship is among India's oldest strata — the nagas as guardians of water and treasure. The epics tie the day to Krishna's victory over Kaliya and to Janamejaya's snake sacrifice.
A strict classical rule belongs to this day: no digging of earth, lest a serpent be harmed. New construction ground-breaking is therefore deliberately avoided on Nag Panchami.
Muhurat on Nag Panchami
Puja is offered in the morning to the nagas. Note the classical prohibition: digging and ground-breaking are avoided today — so property and construction starts should wait for a muhurat date instead.
