Sharad Purnima: dates, muhurat and meaning.
The next Sharad Purnima is on Sunday, 25 October 2026. The date is computed from the classical panchang for Delhi (rule: purnima (full-moon) tithi prevailing at sunset). Below are the Sharad Purnima dates for 2026 and 2027, the day's shubh muhurat windows, and what the festival celebrates.
Sharad Purnima dates
What is Sharad Purnima?
The autumn full moon follows the monsoon's washed skies — hence its legendary clarity. The custom of moon-charged kheer is a household staple across North and West India.
In the Vaishnava tradition it is also the night of Krishna's maha raas with the gopis, Raas Purnima; in Bengal it is Kojagari Lakshmi Puja — 'who is awake?' (ko jagarti), for Lakshmi blesses the wakeful.
Muhurat on Sharad Purnima
The rite is nocturnal — the kheer absorbs moonlight overnight. Daytime observances use the Abhijit Muhurat above.
