Sita Navami: dates, muhurat and meaning.
The next Sita Navami is on Thursday, 13 May 2027. The date is computed from the classical panchang for Delhi (rule: classical festival table — tithi prevailing at local noon). Below are the Sita Navami dates for 2026 and 2027, the day's shubh muhurat windows, and what the festival celebrates.
Sita Navami by year
What is Sita Navami?
Sita Navami honours Janaki, the daughter of the earth and of Mithila. Married women keep the day for the long life and virtue of the household, recalling Sita's pativrata ideals.
Observance centres on Ram-Sita temples — especially in Mithila (Janakpur) and Ayodhya — with swing (jhula) rites and recitations from the Ramcharitmanas.
Muhurat on Sita Navami
Worship follows the midday pattern of Ram Navami. The Abhijit Muhurat above is the day's shubh window for the puja.
| Window | Time (IST) |
|---|---|
| Abhijit Muhurat (shubh for all works) | 11:51 AM – 12:45 PM |
